Step 3: Define Customer Requirements



  • Probably the most important step in the Six Sigma process is determining the actual needs of the customer. Six Sigma helps in systematically overcoming opinions, perceptions, generalizations, current process limitations, and haste which often give the wrong results. Using multiple tools including interviews, surveys, quality feedback systems, data analysis, etc. help to insure that the needs are clearly understood. From that understanding will be the measurement definition and goals, that if attained will yield direct, high impact improvement in customer satisfaction.
